What PortAventura Park is like

PortAventura Park opened in 1995 between Salou and Vila-seca, in the province of Tarragona, Spain. Today it is the heart of the PortAventura World resort, which also includes Ferrari Land, the Caribe Aquatic Park water park and several themed hotels. Ferrari Land and the water park have their own tickets.

The park is divided into six areas inspired by places around the world: Mediterrània, Polynesia, China, SésamoAventura, México and Far West. Each one has its own architecture, music, restaurants and shows, and the full route forms a large loop around the central lake.

Thrill seekers will find Shambhala and Dragon Khan in China, Furius Baco in Mediterrània, the Hurakan Condor tower in México, and Uncharted and Stampida in Far West. Families with young children will find the gentlest rides in SésamoAventura, the Sesame Street area, plus several rides for little ones in Far West and Polynesia.

How to get to PortAventura Park

By train: Rodalies de Catalunya lines R17 and RT2 stop at PortAventura World station, next to the resort. According to the official website, if you travel from within Catalonia the return Rodalies ticket is included with your park ticket; check the conditions when you buy it. From Barcelona, the R17 journey takes a little over an hour.

From outside Catalonia, high-speed and long-distance trains arrive at Camp de Tarragona station. From there you can reach the park on Plana bus line L4, by taxi or by hire car.

By car, take the A-7 motorway. The nearest airport is Reus, about 15 minutes away; Barcelona-El Prat is roughly an hour away. The address is Avinguda Alcalde Pere Molas, s/n, 43480 Vila-seca (Tarragona).

When to go

PortAventura Park isn’t open all year round, and opening hours vary: check the official calendar before planning your visit. Besides the summer season, the park runs Halloween (19 September to 15 November 2026) and Christmas (20 November 2026 to 6 January 2027), each with its own decorations and shows.

Weekends, bank holidays and summer days are the busiest. If you can choose, a weekday outside school holidays usually means much shorter queues. Each ride page in this guide shows the live waiting time, which helps you decide where to start.

Getting around the park

The six areas form a loop around the lake, so you can walk the whole park without doubling back. From the entrance, in Mediterrània, you can head towards Polynesia and SésamoAventura or towards Far West.

There is also transport inside the park: the train has stations in Mediterrània (Estació del Nord), Far West (Penitence Station) and SésamoAventura, and boats cross the lake from the Mediterrània harbour (Port de la Drassana) to China (Waitan Port).

According to the official website, you can leave the park and come back in on the same day as long as you keep your ticket.

Express passes

PortAventura sells Express passes, paid separately, that give you fast-track entry on some rides. For example, Express 5 Adrenaline gives one fast-track entry on each of five thrill rides, and PortAventura Express ONE gives a single fast-track entry on the ride of your choice from its list.

The rides included vary from pass to pass: each ride page in this guide shows whether the ride appears in any official Express pass. Always check the conditions and price on the official website before buying.

Planning your visit

With young children: start in SésamoAventura, which has the most children’s rides, then move on to Polynesia (Canoes) and Far West (Tomahawk, Buffalo Rodeo, Carousel). Measure your children before you go and use the height filter on this page: many rides let shorter children on with an adult, and some children’s rides have a maximum height.

For thrill seekers: the big ones are Shambhala and Dragon Khan (China), Furius Baco (Mediterrània), Hurakan Condor (México), and Uncharted and Stampida (Far West). All require 1.40 m except Stampida (1.20 m) and Uncharted (1.10 m with an adult), and several have a 1.95 m maximum. They’re spread all around the loop, so start with the closest one and keep going in one direction.

On a hot day, save the water rides for the middle of the day: Tutuki Splash, Grand Canyon Rapids, Silver River Flume and Angkor. On Grand Canyon Rapids and Tutuki Splash it’s easy to get soaked, so bring a change of clothes or a poncho.

Accessibility

According to the official website, most rides have a dedicated access for people with disabilities and reduced mobility. For some, such as Shambhala and Stampida, the website says they are temporarily unavailable to wheelchair users. Check the conditions for each ride on the official website or at Guest Service by the entrance.
